CIMIC Group’s mineral processing company, Sedgman, has been awarded a contract by New Century Resources’ subsidiary Century Mining Limited to operate and maintain the Lawn Hill processing plant, concentrate pipeline and the mine’s port facility at Karumba on the Gulf of Carpentaria.

Sedgman has already been an important part of the restart project, with around 100 workers on site doing refurbishment and commission works for the plant and port.
The new contract will generate revenue to Sedgman of approximately $110 million over five years.
CIMIC Group Chief Executive Officer Michael Wright said this contract demonstrated Sedgman’s engineering and operational expertise and highlighted the value they delivered across the project lifecycle for their mining clients.
Sedgman Managing Director Grant Fraser said they had developed a strong working relationship with New Century Resources at the Century Mine.
“That came firstly through a feasibility study and then on refurbishment and reconfiguration of the plant and infrastructure,” Mr Fraser said.
“I’m pleased that we are building on our early involvement, showcasing our full project cycle delivery capability, by adding operation and maintenance services to our works at the site.”
In 2017 Sedgman provided a feasibility study on the restart of the Century Zinc mine, concentrate pipeline and Karumba port.
Sedgman subsequently won the contract to begin engineering, procurement and construction works for the refurbishment and reconfiguration of the plant and port, and they provided services for operational readiness requirements.
The news comes as the Waanyi people have bargained a landmark contract with New Century Resources after a protest on Waanyi land last month.
The mining company brokered a cultural management deal to the Waanyi Downer Joint Venture (WDJV).
Site works began in December 2017 and the project is set to begin production third quarter of 2018.
