Sad that Noeline Ikin did not beat Bob Katter
I am pleased you wrote about Bob Katter recently (North West Star May 11) but sad that he scrumped your Editorial column with his reply (May 14).

Mr Katter is only interested in keeping live export and his position, he had no other interest outside these two things.
He never responds to any emails on other topics eg the Great Barrier Reef or the Great Artesian Basin.
He only sends “too busy” bounce backs – this is over the last 13 years.
Noeline Ikin beat him hands down in the 2013 federal election with 56 percent of the vote. He only got in through preferences – it’s about time we stopped them, they give a false result and it’s like extra votes for the in-crowd.
I was so sad that Noeline fell ill and later died. She would have been a much better member for Kennedy

Issues Queenslanders care about
This week the Queensland Parliament will be sitting for the fifth time in 2018 under the Palaszczuk Labor Government’s reduced sitting hours.
In the last month, Parliament has only managed to pass two pieces of legislation.
Issues Queenslanders want to see being dealt with, like rising electricity prices, busting congestion and infrastructure being built, continue to be delayed.
And with the State Budget being announced next week, there’s little chance that Bills before Parliament are going to get time in the spotlight any time soon.
Fewer hours in Parliament mean fewer hours that MPs have to fight for the needs of their communities.
When the reduced hours now in place were put to debate, only five minutes were allowed per MP to make their concerns known. Only one hour in total was allowed for the session before hours were cut for the foreseeable future.
Less time to debate. Less time to act on the issues that Queenslanders want to see fixed.

The Biggest Disappointment
“Political Grandstanding“ is the best way of describing the front page Banner Headline “Crime Spree Plea” (Star, May 31) and the Opinion Piece in the same edition, both from State member Robbie Katter.
It is so easy to highlight a problem but it takes hard work to find a solution something which this State Member doesn’t do.
I was however pleased with the Editorial in the same edition by Lydia Lynch who brought some sense to the debate.
Of course, we have problems in our community, our state government recently appointed former Police Commissioner Bob Atkinson to investigate the issues in Cairns, Townsville and Mount Isa and make recommendations to the government to help resolve these problems.
Mr Atkinson recently visited Cairns, Townsville and Mount Isa. In Mount Isa there was no fanfare, he came and met with the victims of these recent crimes in their own homes on a one on one basis as well as meeting with other people in the Community. He will now study the results of his work and make recommendations to the State Government.
Robbie Katter was aware of these initiatives because Mr Atkinson met him in his Mount Isa Office. One would have expected Mr Katter to acknowledge it. He didn’t. Because it didn’t suit his political agenda.
Mr Katter often perform one of the late Slim Dusty songs. Can I suggest he makes himself familiar with the words of one of Slims greatest hits “The Biggest Disappointment” because that’s what many people are feeling about our State Member.
