According to PBR competition coordinator, Diane Hallam, the sport is going from strength to strength.
“We have a high calibre of riders competing at Mount Isa including 25th in the world, Nathan Burtenshaw,” Diane said, “We will have a host of Australian title contenders, some former Australian champions, along with a number of our Global Cup team members who competed in Sydney at the Global Cup where they took on the world.”
The number one cowboy in the country's grand standings, Aaron Kleier, will also be at the event.
The Mount Isa PBR is a qualifying event where the winner will win points in the Australian standings and also the world standings.
“Riders want to win an Australian PBR title and make the world finals which run in Las Vegas each year,” Diane said.
There will be two judges at the event who each judge both the bull and the rider out of 25.
“These points are based on how hard the bull is to ride and how controlled the rider is,” Diane said.
The event will be held over four rounds with the championship taking place on Saturday night.
“You haven't got a shot at winning the event unless you're in that championship round,” Diane said.
“A win here in Mount Isa will climb them higher up the world standings.”
The Australian title will come down to a grand final event which will be held in Townsville in November.
