I couldn’t believe my eyes when I read the comments from our Federal Member for Kennedy Mr. Bob Katter regarding nobody inviting the Prime Minister to Mount Isa but then I thought nothing surprises me about what this man says or does.
You may like Malcolm Turnbull or despise him but he is the Prime Minister, the person who at the drop of a hat can make a decision, which can bring many benefits to our City and this region.
But on the reverse side he can refuse to make a decision or make one that could have severe consequences for all of us who live in this part of this nation.
Mr Katter, doesn’t common sense dictate that as the Member for this area you give the Prime Minister and other decision makers the respect which their position deserves.
By all means attack their policies as hard as you like but work with them in the interests of the people of your electorate.
Most people know my personal politics.
I have been a member of the ALP since 1964 and both my wife and I are life members of our Party but in all my years in public office I worked with whoever was in power to bring benefits to the people who I represented.
A perfect example of this was when I was Mayor of our City and the former Premier Campbell Newman came to Mount Isa.
As much as I disagreed with most of his policies I met him at the Mount Isa airport, he came to our home for dinner joined by Mike Westerman of Glencore and over that dinner we laid the foundations which saved the Glencore Copper Smelter here in our city as well as copper refineries in Townsville and the hundreds of jobs which these two projects provided.
Campbell Newman laid the foundations to save both projects but it was our current Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk who finalised the arrangements.
That’s right both sides of politics “Working Together” in the interests of the people, something which Mr Katter just doesn’t understand.
No Mr Katter you owe it to your electorate to meet with and work alongside people of all political persuasions.
I’m certain that once again you have demonstrated to so many people that we are missing out “Big Time” so long as we have you as our Federal member. I repeat that well known saying “Thank You for any good that you may have done in the past, I say depart now, In the name of God GO.
Your comments are not seen as comical or amusing they are costing us dearly.
Please re-consider your decision and have the courage to say that you were wrong and Invite the Prime Minister to Mount Isa so that he can understand the many problems which we have in this part of the world but more importantly act on them.

Re our story PM waiting on an invite him to North West Queensland:
Tk Flanno I'm not sure he could afford the Qantas flight... no one can
Kim Forshaw Yes pay ridiculous price for flight one way and drive over the unsafe Barkly/ flinders highway the other way to see what people have to contend with.
Merilyn Harding Yes please. Mount Isa is a small town. So he will not need wheels. I feel he should by himself walk to all his functions by foot and especially at night time. Lets see how safe he will feel.
Kerry N James Derrick Drop him off in the Bronx
Tami Neundorf Shorter maybe he can fill his suitcase up with the poop kits when he visits and hand them out round town
Lynne Henderson He needs to discover this place - it is unique. He needs to come and say Well Done . Thank you for the work you do because you have been responsible for making the country rich! And then subsidise our air fares.
