The Menshed occupies the bottom half of Cancer House on Alma Street and Peter Roberts of the Mount Isa RSL sub-branch said part of the tenancy deal was that the Menshed would look after the grounds.
“But up to now they have had no lawnmower,” Mr Roberts said. “We (the RSL Sub-Branch) stepped in to help because the Menshed was set up to look after Vietnam veterans under our auspices.”
The RSL sub-branch bought the American Briggs and Statton mower with money raised through fundraising activities.
“We try to support local causes when we can,” Mr Roberts said.
Richard Lane of the Mount Isa Menshed said the mower would make a difference.
“We are able to look after the front but the back was always a problem,” Mr Lane said.
“As soon as it rains the grass gets away from us.”
The Shed opens Thursdays and Saturdays.
