Used only sparingly for his debut in NSW's series-opening win, Peachey understands well the feeling of being in the dark about where and when he'll be used.

Until his seven-minute cameo the Penrith livewire paced up and down the MCG sideline, anxious to contribute and unused to the feeling of sitting on the bench having played every week for his NRL club.

Yet he wasn't about to impart any words of wisdom to Ponga, who will be very much in the same boat when he makes his own debut off the bench in the Maroons' must-win game two on Sunday.

Regardless, Peachey had no doubt the speedy 20-year-old Newcastle revelation will more than handle the hype.

"He seems like a confident kid and his head's in the right place," Peachey told AAP.

"He's doing well at Newcastle, they've got a good team there.

"I suppose they'll be getting around him, helping him out and telling him what to do.

"I don't know what position he'll play, if he'll come in the middle or what he's going to do ... he's got good feet so everyone will be out there trying to shut him down."

As Queensland coach Kevin Walters keeps quiet about where he'll deploy the Knights fullback, Peachey is navigating the uncertainty of his own fate from the interchange.

The 26-year-old said coach Brad Fittler remained unsure how to best utilise his versatility as the Blues sit on the cusp of a breakthrough series triumph.

"Freddy doesn't really know what position I'm going to play so it's pretty difficult to prepare," Peachey said.

"But I've just got to do the best I can. Whatever he wants me to play, I'm happy."

Peachey is eager for more minutes this time around as the Maroons fight for their lives and the Blues battle to stop the kind of self-implosion familiar in recent series.

"I'm just anxious and want to get out there," he said.

"At Penrith I'm used to playing a lot of minutes so I just want to help the team.

"I try to stay calm. I just walked up and down the sideline last game - I don't think I sat down."
