This year’s Naidoc Week theme promotes the role women play in society at the local, state and national level. The week in July celebrates the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

A flag raising ceremony at Civic Centre Laws between 10am and noon on Sunday, July 8 will mark the beginning of Naidoc week, with Catholic church baptisms offered at 17 Stanley Street on both Sundays.
Flags will also be raised at Mount Isa’s police station between 10am and 11am on Monday, July 9, before a family fun day at Minnie Davis Park from 10am until 2pm.
A Naidoc cultural trivia night will also be hosted between 6pm and 10pm on Monday, July 9 at the Overlander Hotel, with tickets priced at $5 per person.
A corporate women’s breakfast is on Tuesday, July 10 between 7am and 9am, before Naidoc celebrations for North West Hospital and Health Service staff from 11am until 1pm. Lunch is also served as part of Jimaylya Topsy Harry Naidoc Day at 102 Duchess Road from 1pm to 3pm.
Breakfast is offered at Burke Street on Wednesday, July 11 between 7am and 9am, with a seniors lunch hosted at the Overlander between 11am and 2pm.
A Naidoc breakfast is available on Thursday, July 12 from 7.30am to 9.30am at 11 Camooweal Street, with lunch served at Arthur Petersen between 11.30am and 2pm.
Stalls, live entertainment and more is offered on Friday, July 13 at Skate Park for the annual Naidoc family fun day, between 10am and 4pm. A street march to Skate Park will take place before the event, as will breakfast from 8am.
Sports lovers can enjoy the Naidoc touch competition at Kruttschnitt park bewteen 10am and 5pm on the same day.
A mini softball carnival for children is on between 8.30am and 1pm at Alexander Oval on Saturday, July 14, followed by the Naidoc Ball and Awards night at the Irish Club from 6.30pm. Flags will be lowered at the Civic Centre lawns between 10am and noon on Sunday, July 15.
There is also a Naidoc basketball competition from 2pm at a yet-to-be confirmed venue.
