The event was just one of many offered at the Mount Isa City Show on its second and final day.
Calves were branded with paint rather than hot irons but that was the only break with tradition.

Allan Rankine said handmade leather ropes were still used to lasso calves and secure them for branding.
Plenty of families turned out for the show fun, with rides, side show alley, the strongman and woman competition and live entertainment drawing crowds.
A wine and cheese bar will open at the Kalkadoon Arena about 5pm before PBR begins at 6pm.
Fireworks will then be set off about 9pm before Brad Butcher and his band take the stage.
