Ms Farrelly joined 15 other students from across Queensland to provide the Minster of Education, Grace Grace, with a student’s perspective on important youth issues.
Principal of Spinifex State College, Phil; Sweeney said the group’s first priority will be to help tackle the scourge of cyber- bullying.
“I’m was very pleased for Kathleen and her family when we received confirmation from the Minister’s office that she had been accepted into the Ministerial Student Advisory Committee.
“I know Kathleen will do a superb job representing our school and region,” Mr Sweeney said.
The MSAC met for the first time in Brisbane on the Thursday, June 7 and discussed the issue of cyber bullying with Madonna King, chair of the Premier’s task force on cyber-bullying.
The group found a need for anti-bullying and suicide awareness to incorporate the voices of young people.
Especially those young people who have experienced cyber bullying and its effects first hand.
Minister for Education, Ms Grace said it was important for students to have their voices heard in regards to major education issues.
“These students will be a voice for all Queensland students, giving me direct advice on ways we can improve their learning experience.”
Ms Grace is looking forward to meeting with the group again in September during Term 3.
