Constable Price joined the police service in 1910 and moved from Esk to McKinlay. He served here until signing up to the Australian Imperial Force in the First World War in 1915.
After completing basic training he was shipped to France in 1916 where he was seriously injured by shelling and died in a field hospital.
Constable Price was not included in the Queensland Police Honour Roll of officers who died in active service because he resigned rather than taking leave.
Senior Constable Des Hansson, Officer in Charge at McKinlay police station has taken up the challenge of creating a permanent memorial to Corporal Alexander Price and his brave service.
