There was a strong southerly breeze and Rovers took full advantage to put plenty of points on the scoreboard when they had use of it in the first and third quarters.
By the final break they led by 66 (10.6) points to 22 (3.4) and despite having the breeze at their backs, the Rhinos were really playing for pride.
With the aid of long kicking they had the ball down the Rovers end for long periods but could only manage two behinds – with a funny moment at the start of the quarter as a Dajarra player brought the ball out of the ruck. He forgot about the change of ends and kicked long but in the wrong direction with panicked shouts of “other way!” from the bench.
Eventually it was Rovers who steadied and despite inaccurate kicking of their own, bagged the only goal of the quarter, eventually winning by 50 points.
Final scores: Rovers 11.10 76, Rhinos 3.8 26, and in the other game Tigers 15.8 98 Young Guns 0.1 1
