Last week seventeen Irish dance students from Mount Isa travelled to Mackay to compete in the North Queensland Irish Dance Championships.

The Mount Isa Irish Dance Association – Dean Studio had a mix of girls and boys attend the competition.
The championship was held at the West Mackay State School and saw dance students from across the region participate.
Vice President of The Mount Isa Irish Dance Association – Dean Studio, Petra Osinski said dancers from Cairns, Townsville, Burdekin, Ayr, Mackay and Mount Isa attended.
“On Saturday our group of dancers competed in the team competition and Sunday was a full day of solo dances,” Ms Osinski said.
“We had dancers compete in the Premiership divisions – this is the Trophy dance which consists of a set of dances where they are judged on each dance.”
Madaleine Osinski placed first in the Intermediate Premiership in the Under 12s and Amelia Stacey placed first in the 7 years Beginners Premiership.
“Kate Dean placed third in the Intermediate Premiership in the Under 12s and Claire Sexton came third in the 7 years Beginners Premiership.
“Tracey Tait came first in the Intermediate Slip Jig for 14 years and over, and in the 3-hand choreography open age Kelsey.Bawden, Otto.Tweedie and Tracey.Tait came first,” Ms Osinski said.
