The theme ‘Because of her we can’, shone through when Roslyn Von Senden explained the land is our mother and we need to treat her with respect and in turn treat ourselves with respect.
“Without the land we have no future, it stands for our spiritual bonds and we perceive every living thing that is associated with the land as our mother,” Ms Von Senden said.
“I come from a long line of ancestral storytellers, healers, law people and I’d like to pay my deepest and most honoured respects to our spiritual elders, our ancestors and all the elders here at this luncheon. You are the backbone of the foundations we are standing upon today.”
Guest speaker Aunty Mona Phillips said we take our hats of to our beautiful elders – the ones who have passed on and also the ones we still have here living with us.
“We as elders have a big responsibility to pass on knowledge that our parents passed on to us. For the young ones, they need to start listening and learning from the elders so we can grow and get strong together.
Aunty Mona reminded the guests to honour their mothers, grandmothers, aunties, and look after each other because once they’re gone they’re gone.
