The Public Trustee will host its annual Wills Week, designed to promote the importance of all Queenslanders over 18 having a valid Will and Enduring Power of Attorney.

The Public Trustee of Queensland, Peter Carne says too often making a Will is something people would rather not think about. If they do make a Will, they often forget to keep it up to date.

But Peter says it’s important that your affairs are in order and remain that way for years to come. 

“A Will should be a living document that changes as your life does,” he explains.

“Important life events such as marriage, divorce, entering a de facto relationship and a change to assets all impact on your Will.

Peter says an out-of-date Will can affect more than just your assets and belongings.

“By taking the time to plan now, you can save your loved ones time, money and stress at a time of grief and loss.”

The Public Trustee has been creating free Wills since 1916 when Queenslanders were leaving to fight in the First World War. The Trustee’s staff were even making Wills on the docks and at army camps. 

This proud Queensland tradition has continued into the 21st Century, with almost 1.1 million Wills in safe storage.

That makes the Public Trustee one of the largest Trustee organisations in the southern hemisphere. 

Last financial year, more than 28,000 Wills were prepared at no cost to the Queensland taxpayer. 

As a self-funding organisation with 16 offices located across Queensland, the Public Trustee has over 600 staff who understand their local communities.
