Dance Instructor, Ms Prendergast said she was contacted about her availability to travel to Boulia and conduct a dance workshop.
“I jumped at the opportunity. While I was there, I taught ballet, hip hop and AcroDance classes to students from 4 years of age through to local teens,” she said.
“As well as a group of adults who participated in a Barre Body class.”
The Boulia Shire Council funded the workshop with the objective to provide an avenue of fun, fitness and friendship to all who participated in the workshop.
“My aim was to ensure that the students were given exposure to movement, music and creativity in a healthy and supportive environment while instilling the DiLi – Dream it, Live it mission of inspiring students to fall in love with dance while falling in love with themselves,” Ms Prendergast said.
“The boys and girls involved were a pleasure to teach and they showed great enthusiasm and willingness to learn. The adults were amazing too – it takes a lot of courage to step outside our comfort zone and the ladies who attended the Barre Body ballet based fitness class showed beautiful commitment to try something new.”
Ms Prendergast hopes to continue to support regional communities as well as her home-base dance classes in Mount Isa into the future.
“With the support of Leichhardt Gymnastics Club, I am working towards gymnastics coaching accreditation that will allow me to take dance and gymnastics holiday programs to more communities. I would also love to explore utilising a digital platform to reach more remote areas in the future.”
