After receiving 42 player nominations which included 8 visiting bowlers from as far away as Melbourne who were all travelling through to Darwin, players’ names were drawn out of a hat to determine what team they would be in.
Services Bowls Club Rod Jolly commented that forming teams this way gave the newer inexperienced bowlers not only an opportunity to play with the established players but also a chance to be amongst the prize money, something they normally don’t get.
After the three games on Saturday Team Hedge was the only undefeated team with half a dozen teams hot on their heels with 2 wins.
Sunday was always going to be an interesting day of bowls to see if Team Hedge could remain undefeated.
In the first game of the day Team Baker did everyone a favour and defeated Team Hedge to open up the tournament with 5 teams a chance of victory going into the last round.
After adding up the wins / losses and for and against Team Baker was declared the winner, with Team Hedge defeating Team Von Hoff to take second place followed by Team Cahill who defeated his son to take third place.
Jolly said it was a great weekend for Bowls in Mount Isa and thanked the tournament sponsors along with the visitors and 3 Cloncurry bowlers who travelled up for the weekend
