With Council having used part of property at 21 Richardson Road since 1977 for the pound, the decision was taken to take over the facility and expand on Council’s animal management commitments when the opportunity arose.
Mayor Joyce McCulloch said the facility will undergo a refurbishment which will see the facility developed into a multifaceted Animal Management Centre.
“This new facility will house exercise yards for animals in our care, a dog training yard, visitor/volunteer stay over sites and an overall upgrade of the existing facilities,” Cr McCulloch said.
“Work will begin on the refurbishments in early August and will be completed by the end of June 2019.”

The mayor said this initiative was aligned with council’s Economic Development Strategy and the new strategic direction of Council’s Local Laws Team.
The project is funded by Council’s successful application for $440,000 from the State Government’s Works for Queensland program, stage 2.
Council said it thanked outgoing owners Jean and Andrew Pennington for the care given to animals at the facility throughout the years, and wished them well in their new endeavours.
