It consists of a four-day men’s event, a 36-hole 2-day event and the Women’s Competition running over two days.
Manager of the Mount Isa Golf Club Margie said everyone individually competes.
“There’s about 74 players overall and it’s all single stroke except for the foursome events,” she said.
“We end up with an overall gross winner, a net winner and then the A, B, C and D winners.”
In the Ladies Gross Champion title Kirra White successfully defended her title taking home the Hayman Electrical Gross Champion Trophy.
At the completion of the first round, White held the lead by a slim margin with several competitors just a few shots off the pace. Saturday’s competition set up a close fight for the trophy when the women teed off in the final round on Sunday in frosty conditions making it tough going for all competitors.
White produced numerous impressive strokes during the final 18 holes on her way to carding a combined Gross total of 176. The six-stroke victory put White well clear of runner-up Alison Gordon on 182.
A Club Captain at the Mount Isa Golf Club Mark Thinee said conditions were idealic before the wind came up.
“Conditions at the beginning of the tournament were great with no wind, which is ideal and the greens started off a little softer, however on Friday the wind picked up and the greens have started to speed up so it’s making it a little more difficult.
Presentation night for the Tournament was on Sunday night when trophies and prizes were handed to the winners.The Overall Open Champion in the Men’s event was Matt Briant Jnr with the Open Net Champion going to Peter Armstrong. The A Grade 72-hole Gross winner was James McGregor.
