An art work shows PD Flynn proudly wearing his five-year Service Medal awarded in October 2016.
It was a mystery that needed some detective work to find out where the large hand-painted canvas came from. Senior Constable Renee Matthew of Normanton Child Protection Unit arranged for the extraordinary painting to be commissioned from a Balinese artist.
“Flynn was a champion at what he did and we all loved getting a visit at the office from Mick and Flynn,” Renee said. “I knew how deeply his loss was felt and thought this would be lovely for Mick.”
Sergeant Silman was honoured to receive the tribute to his companion.
“The bond between handler and dog is remarkable and remains long after Flynn’s passing. I do miss Flynn and will admit it brought a tear to my eye to receive this surprise.
“I am truly grateful for Renee’s thoughtful gesture,” Sergeant Silman said.
