Recently Ms King secured employment as a Public Servant in the department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet – a stepping stone in line with her goal to one day become Prime Minister.

“I move to Canberra early August and start orientation week. I’m very excited,” she said.

Ms King went through the Indigenous Australian Government Development Program (IAGDP) which offers entry-level employment and development programs of 15 month duration to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

“It’s a program which encourages Indigenous people to secure employment into areas of Government by working in the Public Service.”

“My job entails being the middle person between Local and State Government as well as legislation development.

“At the end of my course I receive a Diploma of Governance,” she said.

Ms King said the recruitment process was arduous.

“They asked me a lot of questions and I speculated that I wanted to be in the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet.

“However the departments had to seek you out, you couldn't just apply to go to a specific department. A profile of the candidates was sent to each department and they chose who they wanted to bring on board.”

Short and long term goals are always good to have in place and Ms King has her plans set.

“Firstly, my goal is to gain more experience by continuing to work at the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet, then get into local governance where I can gain even more experience.

“Ultimately my biggest goal is to become Prime Minister.”

“It's a very bold statement but it's something I set my eyes on since I was 14-years-old,” she said.
