“We have been working to get a women’s AFL league together,” Ms Sewell said.
“You have to be 16 or older and no experience is necessary.”
Ms Sewell said many women are already at the AFL fields on the weekend to watch family and friends play.
“Hopefully we will be able to play a game before the men on a Saturday,” she said.
Ms Sewell said the idea is to accommodate and encourage players of all skill levels.
“It is a really good way to friends, especially if you are new to town. Our motto is footy, fun and fitness,” she said.
“Come along and give it a crack, this year we are mainly focusing on building skills and fitness. Next year we want to start travelling to compete in Brisbane, Cairns and Townsville.”
The women train on Tuesday and Wednesday nights from 6:30 at the rugby union grounds on Alma Street.
