Mount Isa has a new world champion in its midst thanks to Sikaran Martial Arts Mount Isa

The club’s Zane Street has won a gold medal in the World Eskrima-Kali-Arnis Federation’s world championships in Hawaii recently.
The WEWAK titles are the pinnacle event for the Filipino martial arts eskrima (also known as arnis or kali) that emphasise weapon-based fighting mainly with sticks or knives.
Street won the double stick 18-39 years category at Lahaina on the Hawaiian island of Maui on July 22.
The club congratulated Zane after the event.
“Well done Zane. You are an awesome warrior and deserve the title,” the club said on its Facebook page.
Street’s win was a highlight for the four Sikaran Martial Arts Mount Isa Eskrimadors in the championships with all four producing stellar results and all bringing home medals.

As well as his gold in the Double Stick 18-39 years M 64.1-69.0kg, Street won silver in the Single Stick 18-39 years M 65.1-68.0kg and claimed fifth place in Knife Point 18+ years M 62.1-70.0kg and also fifth in Kulata Continuous 18+ years M -73.0kg
Teenager Patrick Roche also among the medals bringing home one silver and two bronze.
Roche got silver in Knife Point 14-15 years M +160.1cm and took bronze in Single Stick 14-15 years M +160.1cm and Kulata Point 14-15 years M +160.1cm.
For good measure he finished fifth in Double Stick 14-15 years M +160.1cm
Dallas Farnsworth added to the medal haul with a silver in Single Stick 18-39 years M 87.1-93.0kg.
He also claimed fifth place in four other events: Double Stick 18-39 years M 82.1-91.0kg, Knife Point 18+ years M +86.1kg, Kulata Continuous 18+ years M 81.1-90.0kg and Kulata Point 18+ years M 82.1-91.0kg.
Fourth member Chris Roche was also on the podium with bronze in Single Stick 40-56 years M 84.1-100.0kg and two fifths in Double Stick 40+ years M 84.1-100.0kg and Knife Point 18+ years M +86.1kg.
The club thanked all of their families, club members, international and Mount Isa community members who sent messages of support throughout the World Titles.
