Mining contractor, Downer will be winding down its operation sheds and administration offices in Mount Isa by the end of September due to changing market conditions and economic circumstances.

A spokesperson from Downer Head Office said they have arranged for the 55 local employees to be redeployed within the area.
“Downer has significant operations throughout Queensland and will return to the Mount Isa area if further projects become available in the future.”
Their mining division has been delivering contract mining and civil earthmoving services in Mount Isa for many years.
The Downer Group employs approximately 56,000 people across more than 300 sites, primarily in Australia and New Zealand but also in the Asia-Pacific region, South America and Southern Africa.
The company designs, builds and sustains assets, infrastructure and facilities.
The mining giant has a history dating back 150 years in Australia and New Zealand.
Downer would not comment further.
