Cloncurry kicked up the dust for another successful Merry Muster festival with three action packed days of rodeo.
The Festival regained the prestigious title of “Australia’s Highest Single Round Payout Professional Rodeo” after making the decision to raise all Open event prize money from $2000 to $4250 this year.
The decision meant that the top APRA riders in bulls and broncs were there to contest the honours.
The Merry Muster gave a shout out to Protection Bull Fighters Dean Berry and Cody Hammond put their lives on the line protecting the bull Riders at the Xtreme Bulls Friday night as contractors Gill Bros brought some of the meanest beasts in the last to do battle with the cowboys.
Jay Borghero won the event with a 89 point ride taking home a cool $3430.
Second was Jake Curr on 87.5 and Brydon Wellby was third on 83.5.
The Merry Muster also welcomed a new Merry Muster Festival Rodeo Queen in Emmy Gallagher, taking on the role from Kate Taylor who was rodeo queen in the previous two years.
The Muster committee said Emmy had done an excellent job of fundraising this year and was super excited to step up to the plate with all that the rodeo queen role entails.
Emmy was there on Saturday wearing her brand new crown and buckle as she handed out the buckle for the event winners.
