Professor Sandford is Censor in Chief for RACMA but will relinquish this role to take up the Presidency of RACMA from 27 October 2018 for a three year term.
He said he was honoured to take on the role.
“I will use this honorary appointment as lead of the College to further support the national goals of addressing the unequal distribution of the medical workforce in rural and remote regions, and the disparity of health outcomes, First Nation’s Indigenous Health and Leadership.
“It is a big responsibility but one I am very committed to uphold, “Professor Sandford said.
NWHHS Chief Executive Lisa Davies Jones said Professor Sandford will continue in his role as Executive Director Medical Services and Clinical Governance at the NWHHS.
“This additional role will provide a wonderful Australian-wide platform for Professor Sandford to really profile the need for new and different ways of approaching rural and remote medicine, and we are very proud to have Professor Sandford in such a high profile and influential position,” Ms Davies Jones said.
