Police allege Mr Brophy's car was stolen from the top carpark of the Isa Hotel between 9 and 11pm on Tuesday night.
Police say the car may have been unlocked at the time.
The car was found dumped about 70km west of Mount Isa on Wednesday.
"It is a reminder to all of our tourists and locals to lock it or lose it," Mount Isa OIC Sen Sgt Renee Hanrahan said.
"It is not just a catchy saying, it is a preventative message."
Investigations into the theft are continuing and anyone with information should contact Policelink on 131 444.
