The Rural Fire Service is warning people to take fire precautions in the tourist season.
QFES rural area manager Gavin Fryer said the fire season was starting early this year.
“We’re already experiencing fires on the roadside from faulty equipment and people pulling over with hot exhausts etc,” Mr Fryer said.
“The potential for those fires to go quite a distance is very high.”
Mr Fryer said as the Rodeo and racing festival season ramped up they were worried about campers taking care around camp fires and being careful in areas they are unfamiliar with and getting caught in fires.
“People should be aware of fuel sources around camp fires and make sure it is in a well cleared area and make sure it is completely extinguished before they leave,” he said. “Also make sure all your (car) equipment is up to scratch and serviced.”
