A huge day of competition on Friday attracted a massive crowd to Buchanan Park and they were rewarded with thrilling action across all the roughstock and timed disciplines.
Rockhampton Sam Spencer won section 1 of the Open Bull Ride with an 82 point ride on Blossom.
Winner of the Cloncurry bareback bronc Dave Worsfold continued his superb form with an 82.5 point ride in Mount Isa but US cowboy Chase Erickson did even better still with 84 points.
The Super Hero Bronc Ride and the Op Shop Barrel Race were back from last year to provide colour and laughs ahead of Friday night’s official opening with Tourism Minister Kate Jones representing premier Annastacia Palaszczuk.
The action continues Saturday.
