High school students participated in a two day workshop with the acclaimed Indigenous writer who currently has a TV mini-series running on SBS - NITV called, Wrong Kind of Black.
Pryor is descendant from the Birri-gubba nation of the Bowen region and the Kunggandji people from Yarrabah, near Cairns.
He had a long career communicating Indigenous culture to schools in Australia, performing dances, playing didgeridoo, and storytelling, before turning to writing books.
The workshops were centred around this year’s NAIDOC week theme, Because of Her We Can.
“They have been writing amazing stories about their mothers, grandmothers and aunts that they can keep for years,” Pryor said.
Pryor pressed home the importance of appreciating the strong women in the teenagers lives.
“Now I realise just how much my means to me,” Year 8 student Darcy Webber said.
