“We had 45 presentations to the field clinic over the weekend, staffed by our doctors and nurses from our Emergency Department – that meant 45 fewer people turning up to our Emergency Department, which was busy enough over the weekend,” Ms Davies Jones said.
The Emergency Department at Mount Isa Hospital had 327 presentations from Friday to Sunday August 10-12, averaging just over 100 a day, 36 percent more than on a normal weekend.
“Fortunately, there was only one influenza presentation, so we have had an easier time than last year, when the flu season peaked exactly on Rodeo weekend,” Ms Davies Jones said.
