The Healthy Relationship – Can You Relate Project will run for approximately six weeks during the September school holidays.
Mount Isa youth will be involved in a series of writing, acting and filmmaking workshops, exploring the topic of what healthy relationships means to them as young people.
The project participants will develop six short films which are to be shown at the Mount Isa Short Film Festival.
The aim of the project is to address how forming healthy relationships impacts and decreases domestic violence in our community.
Project Lead Stephanie King said CYR? is a really exciting project that will provide an opportunity for young people to be involved, to learn new skills, knowledge and get hands on experience in film making, a taste of the film production.
“We designed the program with the aim of providing some really strong professional development for young filmmakers or actors so they learn some great skills for when they enter the workforce,” Ms King said.
“We hope this project inspires our young people, builds their confidence in being part of an amazing group of role models and engaging with our artists and being an active member of the community.”
“These projects will really provide a positive platform for youth to have open discussions around the topic of Domestic Violence, as it is one in which impacts on many young people and their families, but it’s also about creating a safe space and with our program we create a space which is always a fun and supportive,” she said.
The project group will include young people from the local community, their family, as well as in-kind support from Centre for Rural and Remote Health (James Cook University), ShortBlack Films, Anvil Productions and supported by the local Mount Isa Community Yarning Circle.
CYR? was made possible by the Australian Government’s Regional Arts Fund, provided through Regional Arts Australia, administered in Queensland by Flying Arts Alliance.
If you’re a young person or any local organisations who would like to be involved to please make contact with Young People Ahead Youth and Community Services and express your interest in being involved.
