Mr Whitney tired of having to regularly replace rusted ducts and roofing sheets after installing evaporative coolers.
So he invented a solution, which led to the formation of his Mount Isa company, Dropper Solutions.
See this innovative installation here.
“I thought there must be a better way to install these dropper ducts and evaps to get a longer life span and prevent water from damaging roofing iron,” Mr Whitney said.
“A simple solution came to mind, why not use stainless steel to make the dropper duct, install a polyethylene drip tray underneath the evaporative cooler and install an emergency drip tray beneath the dropper duct itself?”
That was four years ago.
Today, Dropper Solutions supplies Merv’s product to authorised re-sellers who carry out the installation work of our DDK2.
Australian owned, the patented system provides easy installation, greater running efficiencies and significantly lower maintenance costs.
“What’s more, the unit has been designed to eliminate the excess water that travels on to rooftops and gutters, leading to unsightly rust and water damage to the building,” Mr Whitney said.
“After the successful launch of Dropper Solution’s DDK2 in the Mount Isa region, plans are now in motion to expand our customer base and take the DDK2 to other parts of the country.”
Dropper Solutions is a supply-based company for Seeley International and Breezaire evaporative coolers, Mr Whitney said.
“The DDK2 is the complete installation kit for a roof mounted evaporative cooling system.
“It includes stainless steel dropper duct, polyethylene drip tray, emergency drip tray, air diverter, roof flashings, multi-size plastic spigots, plumbing and drainage materials, screws and fixings.”
Mr Whitney said evaporative cooling had a significant edge on refrigerative systems when it came to energy efficiency and lifestyle.
“Hot air enters the cooling unit on the roof where it is filtered and cooled as it passes through specially designed moistened pads,” he said.
“The fan then blows the naturally cooled air throughout your home.
“No matter whether you’re upgrading an existing evaporative system or installing a brand new one, the Dropper Solutions DDK2 evaporative air conditioning kit is the ideal choice.”
Mr Whitney said a drawcard of the city was the friendly nature of his customers, suppliers and employees.
