With a different host every year, this year saw the Finnish community shining in the spotlight. Stalls were set up around the Good Shepherd church grounds selling Indian, Asian, Pacific Island, European and Australian food.
Music and dance groups kept the crowd entertained with a host of performances.
Festival president Tony McGrady said the event was one of the great achievements of the Mount Isa community.
“While it is run by the Catholic Church it is truly a community event.”
Multicultural Affairs minister Stirling Hinchliffe was given a warm Mount Isa welcome when he opened the festival on Friday night.
“I was very pleased to have a Guinness put in my hand as I arrived,” he laughed.
“Mount Isa would not be the community it is today without the breadth of people of different faiths, backgrounds, who look different – and embracing them, that has been the success of Mount Isa.”
