Local company Auzscot Constructions was responsible for both the civil works and construction of the two homes located at 50 Gregory Street.
Auzscot civil engineer Jacob Riella said the homes are designed specifically for residents to age-in-place and meet gold standards in design.
“The two-bedroom low-set homes feature wider hallways and doorways to accommodate wheelchairs, kitchen appliances at bench height for accessibility, solar panels to reduce energy costs, electric scooter charging points and reinforced bathrooms for the installation of handrails,” Mr Riella said.
Cloncurry Mayor Greg Campbell said the project is a wonderful result for the community.
“This is a great example of the state government working with council and the private sector to fill a gap in the housing market and boost local economies through housing sales and job creation,” Cr Campbell said.
Qld Infrastructure minister Cameron Dick said the homes provide seniors with the ability to downsize and retire in their town, close to friends and family.
“Being able to stay in your home town, surrounded by the people and places you love, is important for residents in all communities as they enter their later years.
Ageing in place is about caring for people as they enter their golden years
- Cameron Dick
“Ageing in place is about caring for people as they enter their golden years and proactively addressing the shortfall in appropriate housing for seniors in regional Queensland.
“These homes demonstrate an example of ageing-friendly housing to local builders and will test the market for adaptable and accessible accommodation in regional areas,” Mr Dick said.
“This project focuses on the needs of the Cloncurry community, through working in conjunction with the council, ensures that local needs and aspirations are understood.”
City and Country Realty agent John Tully is sales agent for the homes which are expected to go on the market in a few weeks.
