Senior Campus Maths and Science Teacher Matthew Ward said while the students won't experience the realities young refugees face, the challenges they encounter will provide an opportunity for them to begin to understand what a refugee's journey may be like.

As part of this challenge, students survived using just the supplies they could fit into their backpacks for the weekend, and camped on the floor of a classroom.

“It’s about leaving almost everything behind even if it's just for 40 hours.”

“No mobile phones, no soft drink, or coffee, or a comfy bed with pillows, no takeaway food,” he said.

The students raised over $3600.

“Our students smashed their original fundraising goal of $500, we’re very proud of them.”
