Isa’s art gallery gets fancy makeover

The region’s artists have a newly renovated gallery to showcase their talent.

After weeks of hard work the gallery, located at Outback at Isa, was ready to welcome a crowd of art lovers.

Mayor Joyce McCulloch opened the new and improved Mount Isa Regional Art Gallery on Thursday night.

Cr McCulloch hoped the new space would encourage more young people to exhibit their art.

She encouraged residents to pop in to the gallery and enjoy the collection of diverse local works.

Local artist Carmen Toohey, who works as a guidance counsellor at Good Shepherd, said painting was her therapy.

“I feel really honoured to be able to show my work here. The gallery looks beautiful – we could be in Brisbane right now,” Ms Toohey said.

“It is a bit scary to put yourself out there for people to judge, but it is really special to be able to do this.”

Ms Toohey is preparing for a solo exhibition at the gallery in the coming months.
