Recently promoted Detective Superintendent Hodgman is leaving Northern Queensland, heading south to undertake his new duties as Detective Superintendent, Operations Commander, Homicide Group, State Crime Command.
While in Mount Isa District, Detective Superintendent Chris Hodgman has performed roles as both the Detective Inspector Crime and Support Services, and most recently as Inspector, Patrol Services.
When reflecting on his achievements Detective Superintendent Hodgman recognised the opportunity his role provided to synchronise local services.
“Bringing a level of co-ordination to different entities that should seamlessly work together to support the people of Mount Isa has been a satisfying achievement,” Detective Superintendent Hodgman said.
“Being in Mount Isa has provided an ability to engage with all levels of Government and non-Government organisations to try and make a difference.
“This is difficult in larger centres.”
Detective Superintendent Hodgman will certainly be remembered for his work with communities throughout Mount Isa District and his efforts to strengthen relationships right across the area.
While Detective Superintendent Hodgman is looking forward to the opportunities and challenges that come with his new role of Operations Commander, Homicide Group, he will miss the people of the West and the opportunity to live in one of the most diverse parts of our state.
“Working for the QPS is similar in most parts of the State but living in Mount Isa provides you the ability to travel 700 kilometres south and enjoy fantastic events,” he said.
“The Gulf is another special place that should be explored for the fishing and camping in isolated places.”
It was difficult for Detective Superintendent Hodgman to choose a personal favourite, but as a keen camper and even keener fisherman, he has a couple of local preferred haunts.
“The Gregory for camping is a special place as well Mornington Island for its beauty,” he said.
Detective Superintendent Hodgman and wife Kelly are now heading back to Brisbane after a long policing history in North Queensland.
“We are definitely looking forward to reuniting with family and friends after a 26-year absence from living in Brisbane,” he said.
In 2015 then senior sergeant Hodgman arrived in Mount Isa with a promotion to inspector after a stint in Cairns as district tactician.
In 2017 he was the Mount Isa district’s acting superintendent and also received his 30 year service clasp.
