R U OK? Day is a national campaign to encourage conversation and quash stigma around mental health issues.
Assistant principal Amy Webb said it can be easy to get caught up in the daily rush of life and forget to check on yourself and your friends.
“I think it is important to give kids an opportunity to reflect on their social, emotional, physical and spiritual wellbeing,” Ms Webb said.
Year 11 student Tara Gaven said the day helped students find ways to start conversations around mental health.
“If someone asks if you are okay, you don’t have to feel obliged to say fine, and you also have to be prepared if someone says they are not okay,” Tara said.
Nicholas Thinee, also in Year 11, said it can be tough for teenage boys to open up about their feelings.
“I think today has helped us start conversations with people we normally wouldn’t and promoted good mental health.”
