Cloncurry’s Mayor Greg Campbell said the decision came after extensive community consultation.
“The new space will include improved facilities such as a new junior playground, water park, skate-able furniture, bike path and amenities block,” Cr Campbell said. “It’ll be a place that encourages people to get active and healthy.”
The new park will also connect locals and visitors to its strong and diverse cultural heritage, which includes a range of innovations and technological advances.
Educational street furniture and free wi-fi are aspects of the new area designed to connect with its visitors.
The design of the park also has tourism in mind by connecting Scarr St through to John Flynn Place.
Extensive community consultation was undertaken including 230 surveys and two community discussions.
Cr Campbell thanked Ernest Henry Mine for donating $500,000 to the project.
The next stage for the redevelopment is to develop a detailed construction plan and secure additional funding.
The Park was named after Cloncurry nurse, Matron Florence Amy Clarke.
Florence was renowned for her dedication to the hospital and her patients in the 1940s.
