The Queensland Government’s Container Refund Scheme is coming on November 1 and drink containers will be worth a 10c refund at a range of outlets.
Mount Isa Mayor Joyce McCulloch said council supporteds the scheme and encourages people and local community groups to get involved.
‘This is a positive step forward and we believe this form of recycling can be successful and sustainable in our city,” Cr McCulloch said.
‘There’s an opportunity for community and sporting groups to act as mobile collection points and raise funds for their projects.”
Refund points will be set up across the state by 1 November, and community groups are encouraged to participate as donation points.
Container Exchange is the company appointed by the Queensland Government to run the Container Refund Scheme.
Representatives will be visiting Mount Isa as part of a roadshow to inform everyone about the scheme and enable them to register for participation.
The Mount Isa forum will be at the Civic Centre this Thursday from 5.30pm-7pm.
