Ten years ago Ms Love (aka Rusty Chook as she is affectionately known) gave her word to her brother Mark she would cut off her dreadlocks in either 10 years or when they reached her backside, whichever came first.
Nine years have passed and Rusty’s dreads have reached her bottom.
It’s a big deal for Rusty Chook to part with her crowning glory – over the years she has had a lot of different hair do's.
“Many, many years ago I came home with what my family thought was a beanie on my head and they were trying to rip it off. It was my hair cut. We still laugh about it,” Rusty said.
True to her word Rusty has now planned a date with the scissors to cut her beloved locks and will do so in a good cause.
On October 27 she will have her hair cut at home in a private event with close family and friends.
Sadly brother Mark, who was born with Spina Bifida and lives in Melbourne, will not be able to attend due to the expense of flying to and from Mount Isa.
Twelve months ago she decided that if she was going to cut her hair off, she would raise money for two of her favourite charities.
“I started a Go Fund Me page to raise money for Spina Bifida and women’s cancer,” she said.
“The Spina Bifida Foundation, Victoria and Love Your Sister, an organisation which fights against Cancer will each get an even split of the money.”
The page has reached well over $10,000 and the amount is still climbing.
Ms Love said she wanted to thank everyone for the amazing support received over the year.
“Without your support I couldn't have smashed my goal. Thank you beautiful people.”
