Residents are being urged not to visit patients in the hospital if they have flu-like symptoms. Test results have confirmed three patients and one staff member have the virus.
Hughenden Hospital is working with the infection prevention and control team to minimise the risk of further transmission. If members of the community need medical care they should still attend their appointments or present to Hughenden Hospital.
“For people who do visit the Hughenden Hospital we are asking they assist in reducing the risk of spreading Influenza, the THHS said.
“The best way to do this is to practise good hand hygiene by washing your hands regularly and thoroughly.”
An outbreak of influenza is declared when two or more cases occur.
Influenza is a highly contagious disease which is spread by droplets produced while coughing and sneezing and is easily spread through close contact. It is generally a mild illness but can be severe particularly for people with underlying medical conditions.
