Fight night organiser Michael New said the first AMMA-sanctioned night in Mount Isa feature boxing and muay thai contests was a success with a crowd of over 400 in attendance.
“The local crowd were awesome getting behind all the fighters that entered the cage,” Mr New said. “Fighters came from Cairns, Townsville but the local fighters were definitely a stand out.”
Mr New said local boxer Corey Thorpe from Golden Oaks boxing gym came away with a split decision win against New Nation fighter Nathan Leggo.
“It was a back and forward fight action packed three rounds,” he said.
“Corey also picked up Mount Isa Isuzu fighter of the night award.”
Mr New said New Nation fighter Shaun Adamson collected a TKO via leg kicks in his debut fight while the main event between WMC Queensland champion Mark Anthony Solomon and also the WKA Far North Queensland champion Joseph Gabiola did not disappoint.
“Both fighters showcased their skills in their five round full thai rules fight,” he said.
“Some special spinning elbows thrown by both guys along with all their other skills. Mark set the pace from the start showing his strength while Joseph showed great composure standing his ground though Mark proved too strong in the end taking the unanimous win.”
