For a business to be successful, it must adapt its products or services in response to the market and that’s just what the Mears did.
Mr Mears said they started off selling batteries in a shop on Marion Street.
“Through customer demand we began adding in different products; customers related what they wanted which was usually something inaccessible in town so we would source the products for them.”
This meant bringing in a range of new products related to the already established products in their shop or highlighting different benefits of the products.
Mr Mears said whenever something happened in town or was needed, we added various products, it's all about adapting to the market and listening to your customers.
“Customer service has changed a lot since we first came to Mount Isa and a lot more businesses now target their customer service as a major priority.
“It’s the only way to do retail, it brings recognition and a good name,” he said.
To be a successful business the other thing to do is sell good quality products.
Atlas Batteries became Atlas Superstore – Mount Isa and have recently become the latest stockist of Leading Edge Electronics.
Manager William Lambden said Leading Edge Electronics left a huge whole in the marketplace when they left town over three years ago.
“We were thinking we needed something to go along with the 12 volt batteries, to expanded on the products we already had and we came up with this,” Mr Lambden said.
Leading Edge supply digital cameras, home entertainment, radio communications, stuff for the hobbyist or enthusiast and remote control and electronic toys.
“They have practical products through to the fun stuff to the little bits and pieces like the components you need to set up home theatres and such,” he said.
The Atlas Superstore is in Simpson Street.
