Mount Isa Fish Stocking Group coordinator Tiffany Waddell Wood and event sponsors including Mount Isa Water Board, Glencore Mount Isa Mines, Mount Isa Mazda, Hit 102.5,Aussure Insurance, Hydraulics, and naming rights sponsors Clancy Corporation gathered at the lake ahead of the big event with Ms Waddell Wood saying everything was set to roll.
“Everything is looking fantastic, and with the weather warming up the fish are going to get pretty hungry,” Ms Waddell Wood said.
“We’ve got all our prizes sorted with plenty of cash up for grabs and prizes like boats and eskies.”
The $50,000 tagged barra competition has been discontinued but the major prize of a fully-kitted out 3.4m tinnie and trailer from Townsville Marine was on display while the main junior prize was a kayak package and Ms Waddell Wood said they were open to entrants into the fishing competition.
“To win you must register and also be present for the draw at the presentations on Sunday,” she said.
Dave Clancy from Clancy Corporation said they were proud to be naming rights sponsors for the last five years. “There was only 20% in the Lake five years ago and we thought hopefully we can get it growing again,” Mr Clancy said.
The event kicks off lunchtime Friday. You can register in advance at Tool N Tackle or BCF Mount Isa or at the nominations table at the event from noon on the Friday right up to close of fishing at 10am Sunday.
As well as all the fishing fun there is a host of other activities such as the dragon boat racing on Saturday afternoon followed by the yabby races and then a fireworks spectacular and a live band on Saturday night.
There are also Mount Isa Mines-sponsored family markets run by the Mount Isa Community Markets Saturday 4-8.30pm as well as the usual pluka-duk and casting competition novelty events, food and drink and trade exhibits.
Nomination fees for anglers are $50 for seniors and $15 for juniors which will go towards re-stocking efforts at the Lake.
The Classic is on from October 26 to 28.
