“Dingo” Dan Leyden is competing for his country next week in what event sponsor Budgy Smuggler are calling “The Ashes of Ordinary”.
The 2016 winner of Australia’s Most Ordinary Rig joins his 2017 and 2018 counterparts in an international bout with their United Kingdom equivalents.
Dingo Dan says he is rig-ready for the event which takes place this Saturday, October 27 in Sydney.
“We are going rig to rig with the Poms and they’ve have got more cracks than a job site full of plumbers,” Dingo Dan said in an hilarious video released ahead of the event.
“I thought they’d be more ordinary with the amount of warm beer they drink and Yorkshire puddings they eat.”
And Dingo Dan reckons he has a “secret weapon” going into the contest.
“I’ve partnered up with Bundaberg Rum heading into the competition promoting the new Bundy Smugglers this summer’s new edition for rum drinkers,” he said.
“I feel amazing when I wear them – empowered, confident and sexy.”
Dingo Dan will be hoping the outfit will inspire him in the Ashes of Ordinary event.
“We’ll have to do a team music performance as well as an individual challenge,” he said.
Last time I played the Titanic song on the recorder and I’m thinking of doing a rendition of that again.”
Dingo Dan first came to prominence, though some might call it notoriety, when he waltzed into the 2016 Mount Isa Rodeo Arena wearing nothing but his Akubra, smugglers and matching socks to dance to Sexy And I Know It.
He had performed similar stunts during his wedding and at the Julia Creek Dirt N Dust festival before being invited to take part in the Ordinary Rig contest.
“I’ve been wearing budgies for a long time and I’m comfortable with my body and know I’m not going to be the spitting image of an athletic human being,” he said in 2016.
“It’s about me being comfortable with who I am.”
