Queensland Rugby League Northern Region is set to boost opportunities for junior north west players to be selected for representative teams.
Division manager Scott Nosworthy said in the past players from the Cape, Torres Strait and north west were lumped together in makeshift teams at NQ Country selection trials.

Thanks to funding, each region will now field their own team for the trials – doubling the amount of junior players who are able to showcase their skills.
QRL hopes to send full 13s, 14s, and 15s boy teams as well as girl teams in 14s and 16s.
Mr Nosworthy said the funding boost will make it a lot cheaper for junior players to travel to selections.
NQ Country selection trials will take place in Atherton on May 11-12.
There are also plans to bolster local women’s league next year.
