Spinifex State College celebrated the success of a large number of students at their premier event, their annual awards night on Wednesday.

Year 12 graduate Ethan Farrelly was presented with the Hon Tony McGrady Senior Dux award after being recognised in five other award categories during the evening.
The winner of the Mount Isa Mines Junior Dux award was Matthew Twomey, a year nine student with the best academic results during the year.
In Principal Phil Sweeney address he said the school had a highly successful year of inspiring and empowering the identities and purpose of their student body.
“The year was filled with new initiatives, improved opportunities for students and a growing spirit of confidence across all sectors of the College,” Mr Sweeney said.
He spoke of a vision, a new sense of identity, mentioning after much consultant with staff, students, and parents a vision of the future was formed.
“Begin with the end in mind,” Mr Sweeney said.
“Graduation captures the culmination of what we do as a school, twelve years of schooling shapes our students into the people they are today, it creates the opportunity for them to enter into the next stage of their lives.
“Our vision is to create graduates by inspiring success, to build resilience and to empower,” he said.
During the evening the audience was entertained by the Spinifex State College Orchestral band.
AWARD RECIPIENTS:
Caltex Best All Rounder – Senior Award went to Ethan Farrelly.
Westpac Best All Rounder – Junior Award was presented to Jade King.
The ADF Long Tan Leadership and Teamwork Awards presented by Lieutenant Joe DiLegge was given to year 10 student Charlotte Leech and year 12 student Helena Fricke.
Sportsperson of the Year awards went to Kelli Eggmolesse from Junior campus and Ethan Farrelly from Senior campus.
Jack Muller was awarded the QMEA Ambassador Award.
TAFE student of the Year award was presented to Charlee larkin and Lachlan Murrell.
School-based Apprentice/Trainee of the Year was awarded to Leroy Snelling.
Work Experience Student of the Year went to Jessica Elliott.
Residential student of the Year was presented to Bronti Vinson.
Grace Julian from Junior and Chloe McLean from Senior campus were presented the Mount Isa Eisteddfod Association Excellence in the Arts award.
The Jan Truss award for Excellence in English went to Matthew Twomey and Karen John Ranjit Kumar.
Award for Excellence in Mathematics went to Junior student Lily Swaffield and Senior student Ethan Farrelly.
Samuel McMillan and Ethan Farrelly were awarded the Australian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy award.
Ryan Hujanen was presented with the Wardle Accounting and Business Advisory award for Excellence in Business Education.
JCU Academic Encouragement award was presented to Shilah Caulton and Aaliyah Harrison.
Vishusha Lakshman accepted the Diane Willis Memorial Bursary.
