Mount Isa Rugby Union vice president Chris Thinee said the tens format was something they were trialling and hopes to emulate the success of the Hughenden sevens competition.
“It’s a good format, it’s a little more structured than the sevens obviously with the extra few players on the field,” Mr Thinee said.
“But it is more free play than the 15 a side because the five defenders are missing.”
Mr Thinee said the draw for the year was structured around the three rounds where the four clubs play each other.
“To start the season we had the spring sevens then we had the three rounds, then the Tens, now we have another three rounds and then to finish the (calendar) year off on December 8 we’ve got the trinations tens where we got Australia, New Zealand and Pacific Islanders.”
A good crowd was on hand to watch the Floorworx Tens entertainment on Saturday.
The format had all four teams playing each other but Euros were down on numbers on the night and formed a scratch team.
Keas and Cloncurry looked the best from the opening game where Keas came from 15-0 down to win 19-15.
And when they met again in the final Keas won the decider comfortably to win the $1000 for first with $500 for the Curry.
