In response to Kendall Santillan’s (aka Tony McGrady) letter to the editor on November 15, I am pleased that he has been following the work that we have been doing by promoting Mount Isa and forming important relationships for the future benefit of the city. He referred to our involvement in the Geoscience Conference recently. This opportunity was an exclusive invitation to attend, speak, and represent Mount Isa on an internationally recognised stage. It did not cost the rather random figure of $6k as suggested by Mr McGrady. Rather, it was fully funded by the invitee, who recognised the importance of featuring Mount Isa in such an important issue.

The other concern Mr McGrady has is the waste levy. He would like council to sit down with the minister and her staff to discuss the opportunity, and so would we. But the minister and her committee have declined to visit the city in which they have decided to include in the waste levy.
Perhaps it is too costly to travel here from the coast. I wonder how much it will cost us to dispose of our waste after the rebate is taken away in a few years?
Sorry Mr McGrady, but I will not stay at home and accept every unfair decision the state and federal government make for us here in Mount Isa without a fair fight. It’s called good leadership.
